In collaboration with Audi’s VR department, we developed a virtual showroom using Unreal Engine 4 and Oculus Rift. The experience showcased an original CAD model of the Audi RS4 that we optimized for high-performance, real-time rendering. Intended for Audi dealerships across Germany, the virtual showroom would allow customers to interact with various car models in VR, enabling them to configure and visualize vehicle options in real time.
Responsibilities
Art Direction
As Art Director, I established a clear visual hierarchy by creating for the showroom an abstract, color-neutral environment designed to bring the focus on the vehicle. I implemented a strategic lighting rig, comprising arrays of ceiling neon lights, large billboard displays, and various floor lights to produce dynamic reflections that accentuate the RS4’s unique curvatures and premium finish as it slowly rotates on a spinning platform.

Achieving uncompromising photorealism was a primary focus, leading me to dedicate significant research to the material science of automotive finishes. I developed sophisticated shaders to accurately simulate metallic flake distributions, multi-faceted pearlescent effects, and deep-layered lacquer finishes. Every material was meticulously calibrated to ensure absolute fidelity to Audi’s official color range and technical specifications, providing a digital representation that is indistinguishable from the physical paint.
